SDC Advisory Council

The FloridaSDC Advisory Council in Circuit 20 is comprised of up to 9 elected individuals
who are current or past participants in the program. Members meet monthly with SDC staff to
advise and assist in the operation and development of the program. They support the program
in remaining true to the principles and values of self-direction. To this end, the Council
members advise, advocate, support and critique the ongoing process of the program. They are
involved in problem solving on issues of concern to participants in the program, family
members, coaches or the community. More specifically, the Advisory Council serves four
primary functions.

The duties of the Advisory Council are:

1. To advise the FloridaSDC Program Director in operating FloridaSDC.

2. To communicate with the Program Director about issues relating to the District SDC Program.

3. To ensure fidelity to the FloridaSDC intent, as a working model developed for state-wide replication.

4. To promote community understanding of the model and its goals by giving presentations
to the public and to community organizations that help to promote the work of FloridaSDC
